Hair Growth Tips/Tricks

So a few months after having Jameson I started getting “postpartum hair”. Which is basically all the extra hair that my body held on to during pregnancy, started to shed. It literally felt like I had handfuls coming out daily. So I did some extended research on what I could do to get my hair growing again.

As a former hairdresser, I know that nothing can make your hair grow “quicker”. I know that hair grows at an average of a half inch per month. However, I never used to notice my hair actually getting 6 inches longer each year so I decided to do some more digging.

Basically I found out that in order for hair to grow how it’s supposed to, you need to nourish your body, stimulate your scalp and find ways to reduce breakage. So I’m sharing just a few ways you can jumpstart your body and stimulate your hair follicles for hair growth✨

1. Drink More Water

More than 50% of Americans are dehydrated. In order for optimal hair growth (and to stay hydrated and healthy too, duh) you need to drink your body weight in ounces daily. Drinking enough water will help the body flush out toxins and result in healthier hair, skin, and nails!

2. Brush Your Hair

Okay I know this sounds ridiculously simple, but I’m telling you guys this made the biggest difference for me! Brushing from scalp to ends not only stimulates your hair follicles but it also brushes down excess oils away from your hair follicles so they don’t get clogged. Use a soft bristled brush so that way you don’t cause breakage to the ends of your hair❤️

3. Eat Healthier

You pretty much know the drill, you are what you eat. But guys! This is huge! We reflect what we put in our bodies. Eating too much junk food can show up on our face (acne and other blemishes) and our hair/nails (dry and brittle). So it’s extremely important to eat well.

4. Lavender + Peppermint Essential Oils

Okay so I’ve been doing this for some time now and not only have I seen a difference in growth, it’s become quite a relaxing ritual for myself. I mix about 1 tablespoon of coconut oil with 2 drops lavender and 1 drop peppermint essential oil together, apply it to my scalp and massage for about 15 minutes then wash. I do this about once a week! (I only use high quality oils for this because most oils these days consist of synthetics) *for info on what oils I use see my Essential Oils Page *

5. Get a Haircut

Okay before you roll your eyes at me, just hear me out. If you guys have split ends and you don’t get them cut, they continue to split. They will split all the way up until they break off completely. So this is another huge one for hair growth! Even if it’s just a couple inches off the ends to clean it up, it makes a huge difference!

6. Get a Silk Pillowcase

So sleeping on a silk pillowcase can reduce friction which helps keep split ends at bay. Also, sleeping with your hair in a loose braid verses up in a bun or a ponytail can also help reduce breakage. Reason being, there is less tension being placed on the hair(especially if you’re the type of person who wake up on the opposite side of where you fell asleep 😂👍).

So these are my hair growth tips for anyone looking to grow out their hair! If you guys have any other hair growth recommendations feel free to leave in the comments below❤️

  1. I have noticed this happening to me too. I have to sweep my bathroom floor every time I blow dry my hair. It is getting ridiculous. I will definitely try some of these. Thank you!

    1. I had this problem while I was pregnant. I made a small paste out of baking soda and washed my hair with that. It is kind of hard to rinse out, but it would miracles for me!

  2. I’ve heard great things about African castor oil. Smells like cigarette ash though. My hair has fallen out greatly many times in the last few years but never so much as when I went on keto diet. That was really bad. Mine grows long super fast but is noticeably thinner than before (my ponytail is half of what it used to be) 😩😩😩

    1. Oh I’ll definitely have to try that! And try scalp stimulation. Sometimes our follicles get blocked/clogged with excess oil and removing that can make a huge difference in density! ❤️❤️❤️

    1. It’s honestly great for this! I recommend going w/ Young living’s peppermint oil. It’s therapeutic grade, with no fillers or synthetics. Let me know if you need help finding it or have any questions ❤️

  3. I’ve been going through some serious hair loss. My youngest is 4 months. So it’s about that time. But it’s sooo discouraging when you see handfuls of hair falling out. So glad you posted this! I’m going to try the essential oils. And definitely look into a silk pillowcase. Great tips!
